Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than 27 years in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.

This encompassed attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a public vigil that could "allow for a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a document approving the arrest, the magistrate said data from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the former leader's plan to remove the tracking monitor to ensure success in his escape.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plot which encompassed plans to assassinate the current president and his running partner, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill Alexandre de Moraes - the top judicial official who has been overseeing the former president's case.
